It is very affordable when compared to other options. Plus, it is classic, simple and elegant. It is however, rough to the touch. Algae love plaster so it will need to be maintained weekly and washed with acid every 3-5 years.
What are the advantages? For starters, fiberglass lasts longer than concrete or plaster. Also, fiberglass is smoother, so it absorbs fewer chemicals and less organic material. Fiberglass resists algae stains, too. When correctly done, you are left with a good-looking pool likely to last a good long time.
What is pool resurfacing? And how does it work? If your pool is in-ground concrete, it is not possible to just put a new surface on top of the existing one. You must prepare the existing surface for a new plaster or pebble coat by either chipping away the plaster, bond coating and sandblasting it or hydro blasting it. These are all acceptable methods according to the National Plasterers Council. However, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Once the surface is prepared properly, you can apply the final coat of plaster, quartz or exposed pebble, or polished pool finish.
